CUI partners with US Clinton School of Public Service on International Internship Program
CUI has struck a new partnership with the University of Arkansas’ Clinton School of Public Service. This summer, students from the Clinton School’s Master of Public Service program will support CUI’s international programming efforts in Ukraine and the Philippines. This partnership aligns with CUI’s commitment to build the capacity of emerging young professionals to address the challenges facing urban regions in Canada and around the world.
The Clinton School of Public Service is the 7th and newest presidential school in the United States; it is located on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The school is the first in the US to offer a Master of Public Service. Students in the program are drawn from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from recent graduates to seasoned public policy practitioners and native Arkansans to international students.
CUI was invited in late 2010 to participate in the Clinton School’s International Public Service Project (IPSP). The IPSP is a component of the Master of Public Service degree program that is designed to provide students with practical experience. Students are placed within a host public service agency or organization located overseas or that has a global mandate to its work, for a minimum of ten weeks.
Clinton School students, Gregory Cooper (photo above, right) and Anatoliy Shatkovskyy (photo above, left) will be placed on CUI’s projects in the Philippines and in Ukraine, respectively. Gregory Cooper will work with local staff and partners on the Urban Partnerships Program-Philippines (UPP-P), which supports the local governments of the Metro-Iloilo Guimaras region to advance sustainable economic growth through improved bio-region management and disaster risk management initiatives. Anatoliy Shatkovskyy will be placed in Kyiv to support the Regional Governance and Development (RGD) Program in Ukraine that promotes regional economic development.
